Gen 1:3 “Let there be light”
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void, and darkness covered the face of the deep while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. The symbol chosen for this charm is the Tibetan symbol for the origins of the universe. It includes the seed of the universe rotating outward forming a spiral of perpetual energy.
Gen 1:6 “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters and let it separate
the waters from the waters.”
God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. God called the dome Sky. Two symbols are combined for this charm. One is humankind’s universal symbol for flowing water, triple waved lines. The second is a curved line downward meaning sky or rainbow.
Gen 1:11 “Let the earth put forth vegetation”
When the waters under the sky were gathered together into one place, the dry land and the seas appeared. On the dry land, plants yielding seed and fruit trees of every kind began to grow. The signs for this charm are from the Swedish Middle Ages to signify the growing season from March to October. It is similar to a sign found among the Tigris- Euphrates cultures.
Gen 1:14 “Let lightS separate the day from the night”
The lights in the sky were separated into day and night where they served as signs for seasons, for days, and for years. They also gave light upon the earth. The sun symbol on this charm is taken from a carved rock in Toro Muerto, southern Peru. Archaeologists believe these drawings were created by the Huari culture more than 1000 years ago.
Gen 1:20 “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures”
The Ichthys was eagerly adopted by the early Christians as the symbol for a follower of Christ; but according to some, it is much older having been found in northern India. They maintain the five Greek words referenced in the word “ΙΧΘΥΣ” include references to the sun, hidden knowledge, signs in the heavens, several deities, and cycles of time.
Gen 1:20 “Let the birds fly above the earth”
Creatures of all kinds and shapes began to swim throughout the seas and fly across the dome of the sky. This image was carved in a rock by ancient Anasazi cliff dwellers living in the southern Colorado plateau and the upper Rio Grande. It is estimated to be 1500 years old.
Gen 1:24 “Let the earth bring forth living creatures”
After the creatures of the sea were created, God brought forth animals from the earth: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind. The graphic image on this charm was carved into rock by hunter-gatherers between 7000 to 12,000 years ago in Saharan North Africa.
Gen 1:26 “Let us make humankind in our image”
After God created the heaven and the earth and all the living things upon it, he created humankind in his image. He gave them dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, the wild animals of the earth, and over every thing that creeps upon the earth.” The petroglyph for this charm can be found on Ossimo boulder #8 located in the Valcamonica valley of the Italian Central Alps. It is believed to be carved around 2500 BC (the copper age).Archaeologists believe the triangular carving of the human figure and the overhead sun represents the first graphic representation of a divinity.
Gen 2:3 “God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it”
After all the heavens, earth and seas were finished; when the seas were filled with creatures; the earth filled with plants and wild beasts; and humankind granted dominion over all He created, God rested. The final image in this set is one of the oldest drawings ever recorded: the image of a human hand. The image of a hand with a counterclockwise spiral in the palm represents depicted a blessing, healing, or homecoming.
